๐ŸŽฏ 5 Main use cases

Markdown has become the modern standard for anyone writing technical content, documentation, and web content. Here’s where this editor becomes indispensable in your workflow.

๐Ÿ“„

Technical documentation

Write READMEs, API guides, changelogs, and documentation for software projects. The live preview lets you instantly see how it will appear on GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket before publishing.

๐Ÿ“

Blog and CMS content

Prepare articles for WordPress, Ghost, Jekyll, or Hugo by writing in Markdown. Copy the generated HTML and paste it into the block editor, or import the .md file directly if your CMS supports it.

๐Ÿ“ง

Emails and newsletters

Create HTML content for email marketing by writing in simple Markdown. Copy the generated HTML and paste it into Mailchimp, SendGrid, or other email marketing services, skipping the complexity of pure HTML code.

๐Ÿ““

Notes and knowledge base

Organize notes, research, and personal notes in Obsidian, Notion, Logseq, or Roam Research. Write in Markdown here, download the .md file, and import it into your preferred note-taking system with perfect formatting.

๐Ÿ’ฌ

Forums and social platforms

Prepare posts for Reddit, Discord, Stack Overflow, or technical forums that support Markdown. Test the formatting before publishing to ensure tables, code, and lists display correctly.

๐Ÿ”’ Privacy and security

Unlike many online editors, this tool runs entirely in your browser. Here’s what that means for your privacy and security.

โœ…

No data sent to servers

Everything you write stays in your browser. The Markdown to HTML rendering happens locally via the open-source Marked.js library. No text is ever transmitted to external servers.

โœ…

No registration required

Start writing immediately, without creating an account or providing an email. No barriers to entry, no usage limits, no upsells. Just you and your text.

โœ…

Zero tracking

We don’t use tracking cookies, invasive analytics, or profiling scripts. The tool respects your privacy by design, not as an afterthought.

โœ…

Works offline

After the first load, the editor works even without an internet connection. Ideal for working while traveling, on planes, or in places with limited connectivity.

โ“ Frequently asked questions

What is Markdown and why should I use it?

Markdown is a lightweight markup language created in 2004 by John Gruber. It allows you to format text using a simple, readable syntax even without rendering (e.g., `**bold**` instead of complex HTML tags). It has become the standard for technical documentation (GitHub), blogs (Jekyll, Hugo), notes (Obsidian, Notion), and technical forum communication because it’s fast to write, easy to read, and portable across platforms.

Are my texts saved anywhere?

No. Everything you write stays exclusively in your browser. When you close the page, the content disappears. If you want to keep your work, use the “Download .md” button to save the file to your device. There is no server database storing your texts.

Can I use the editor offline?

Yes. After the first page load, the editor works completely offline. The Marked.js library and all scripts are loaded in the browser, so you can write and see the preview even without an internet connection. This makes it ideal for working while traveling or in places with limited connectivity.

What’s the difference between “Copy MD” and “Copy HTML”?

Copy MD copies the source text in Markdown syntax (e.g., `# Title`, `**bold**`). It’s useful for pasting into Markdown editors like Obsidian or GitHub. Copy HTML copies the rendered HTML code (e.g., `

What Markdown syntax is supported?

The editor supports standard Markdown syntax (CommonMark) plus GFM (GitHub Flavored Markdown) extensions. This includes: headings (h1-h6), bold/italic text, ordered and unordered lists, links, images, blockquotes, tables, code blocks with syntax highlighting, inline code, horizontal rules, and strikethrough. The initial guide text in the editor demonstrates all these features.

Can I use this editor to write WordPress articles?

Absolutely. Write your article in Markdown, then you have two options: use “Copy HTML” and paste into the WordPress block editor (switching to “Custom HTML” mode if necessary), or download the .md file and use a plugin like “WP Markdown Editor” to import it directly. Many bloggers and content creators use this workflow to write in cleaner environments than the native WordPress editor.

Why does the preview sometimes not exactly match GitHub?

The editor uses the Marked.js library which implements the CommonMark + GFM standard. GitHub uses a slightly customized version of Markdown with some proprietary extensions. In the vast majority of cases (99%) the result is identical. For small differences (like rendering of some complex tables or specific emoji), I recommend always doing a final test on GitHub before publishing critical documentation.
